Thank you for the opportunity to introduce Pikes Peak Respite Services (PPRS)!

PPRS was founded in response to a growing need in our community for support for individuals with disabilities and their caregivers. Respite care provides essential breaks for primary caregivers of individuals with developmental disabilities or medical conditions that require intensive daily caregiving.

At PPRS, we prioritize the safety and well-being of those in our care. Our caregivers undergo fingerprint background checks with CBI and FBI, CPR/First Aid certification, and intense training within the first 90 days of employment. Our team is compassionate, dedicated, and driven by a deep desire to support individuals with varying needs. As a result, our staff turnover is exceptionally low.

Pikes Peak Respite Services was founded in 2004, but the philosophy behind our organization began years earlier. Before becoming a mother, founder and CEO Beverly Seemann worked in memory care, senior care, and helped build a home-care agency. Those experiences created an early and lasting belief that care should never be defined simply by completing tasks or filling hours. People deserve exceptional care, meaningful relationships, dignity, choice, and the opportunity to live as fully and independently as possible. In 2004, while attending UCCS, Beverly responded to an advertisement from a family seeking support for their teenage daughter with Down syndrome and autism. At the same time, she was learning to navigate the disability and Medicaid systems as the mother of a young son with autism. For the first time, she understood the care system from both sides—as a provider and as a parent. That perspective became the foundation of Pikes Peak Respite Services.

From One Family to a Team

One family became several, and it quickly became clear that one person could not meet the growing need. Beverly began hiring caregivers who shared the same commitment to providing exceptional, individualized care. As more families entrusted PPRS with their loved ones, administrative professionals joined the organization to support caregivers, coordinate services, and manage an increasingly complex agency.

Growth brought new challenges, but it also created opportunities to rethink how care could be delivered.

PPRS developed a caregiver model built around choice and compatibility. Rather than simply assigning a caregiver to a family, providers are able to consider the individuals and families they want to support and the schedules they are genuinely available to work.

We believe choice matters on both sides of the relationship. When caregivers have greater ownership over their work, burnout can decrease, relationships can become stronger, and families benefit from providers who truly want to be there.

A Family Business

At one point, care took place in Beverly’s own home. Her sons grew up alongside the business, witnessing the commitment, challenges, and rewards involved in supporting individuals and families.

Beverly is the mother of four sons, and each has taken a different path. Two of her sons work for Pikes Peak Respite Services, one is still in junior high school, and one is living his best life in Utah. Together, their experiences reflect the deeply personal and family-centered foundation on which PPRS was built.

Changing Where Care Happens

Another significant transformation came as PPRS moved away from facility-based programming and increasingly provided services where people’s lives actually happen—in their homes and communities.

Then came COVID-19.

Like organizations everywhere, we were forced to reconsider nearly every aspect of how we operated. What could have simply been a crisis became a catalyst for change.

We streamlined communication, modernized systems, expanded support options, and discovered that we could reach families far beyond our traditional geographic boundaries.

An organization that began by serving families in Colorado Springs grew into one capable of serving individuals and families throughout Colorado.

An Administrative Team Committed to Excellence

Our administrative team has played an essential role in helping PPRS grow while remaining focused on quality, accountability, and compliance. Case management organizations frequently recognize PPRS as an agency that follows state rules and works diligently to maintain compliance at the highest possible level.

That recognition reflects the care, knowledge, and dedication of the entire administrative team. Their work supports caregivers, families, and the individuals we serve every day.

Learning, Adapting and Beginning Again

Our growth has never followed a perfectly straight line.

There have been successful partnerships and difficult ones. The loss of a significant contract required us to reconsider what our business had become and what we wanted it to be next.

We adapted.

Over more than two decades, we have also learned that leadership and growth bring visibility, expectations, criticism, and difficult lessons. Those experiences have challenged us to continually examine not only what we do, but how we do it.

We listen. We learn. We make changes when changes are needed. We continue forward.

Because an organization committed to supporting people must also be willing to grow itself.

More Than Twenty Years Later

Today, Pikes Peak Respite Services is very different from the organization that began with one caregiver and one family in 2004.

Our reach is larger. Our team is larger. Our services have evolved. The systems we use and the ways we communicate have changed dramatically.

Our fundamental philosophy has not.

Provide superior care. Put people first. Give individuals, families, and caregivers meaningful choices. Never stop looking for a better way to serve.

The caregiver shortage has created real challenges, and there have been times when finding qualified caregivers has not been easy. Even so, we continue working to remain competitive, attract dedicated professionals, and create an environment where caregivers want to build meaningful careers.

Every family we support, every caregiver who joins our team, every challenge we encounter, and every lesson we learn continues to influence the organization we are becoming.

We are proud of where we started.

We are proud of how far we have come.

And we are still evolving.

We currently contract with organizations such as The Resource Exchange, Colorado Respite Coalition, School District 49, Easter Seals, Department of Human Services, Family Support Services, and Tricare. Additionally, we accept private insurance and private pay.

Our services are available in Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Broomfield, Custer, Denver, Douglas, El Paso, Elbert, Fremont, Jefferson, Larimer, Lincoln, Morgan, Park, Prowers, Pueblo, Teller, Weld, and Logan counties, with plans for future expansions.

As a mother of a son diagnosed with autism in 2003, I became a passionate advocate for my son and an expert in autism. This experience has taught me how to turn challenges into valuable learning opportunities. I am dedicated to educating parents and providing quality services to help families avoid caregiving burnout, divorce, isolation, and depression.

We are excited for the future of Pikes Peak Respite Services! With the increasing demand for quality caregiving services, we are launching a marketing program to introduce our services to more families through schools, doctors, and community centers. Most of our current clients come to us through word of mouth, and we anticipate continued growth as we work to meet the rising need for specialized care.
